Shannon Devine (she/her)

Shannon lives in Toronto’s east end, with her wife and their two daughters. She is a frequent volunteer in her daughter’s school, Bowmore Road Junior and Senior Public School, a long-distance runner and has been published in the Toronto Star for her commentary on politics, work and social issues. 

Devine was the candidate for Beaches–East York in the 2025 federal election, and has had a leadership or volunteer role in municipal, provincial and federal campaigns in the riding since 2015. She has also spent the last 20 years professionally advocating for rights of working people and equity-seeking communities. She served as the Communications Director for the Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW)/Unifor, Executive Director of the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL), Head of the United Steelworkers’ national Communications and Political Action Department, and Executive Director of the Toronto and York Region Labour Council.

Most recently, Shannon led a national 2SLGBTQIA+ working group, mobilizing union members to fight back against rising rising hate and discrimination in their workplaces. She has had roles on numerous boards and executive committees, including Social Planning Toronto, Parkdale Community Food Bank, Mayworks Festival, NDP Federal Council and Rabble.

She grew up in a community-minded and NDP household, understanding at an early age that progress must be fought-for and no one should be left behind, and since early days as a student activist, she has been deeply involved in organizing community, electoral and workplace campaigns.

Shannon’s favourite thing about being a candidate is canvassing – meeting and hearing from so many people, and understanding what the real challenges are. She’s deeply committed to taking those voices with her to Parliament and fighting for real solutions right here in Beaches–East York.
